Panther – Mail.app Synchronize Problems

I narrowed down the problem where Mail.app kept freezing while checking all of my IMAP folders. If “Automatically synchronize changed mailboxes” is checked and multiple IMAP folders are being synchronized at the same time, Mail.app seems to freeze for an extended period of time. The only way to recover seems to be to force quit […]

Panther – Mail.app ate itself…

After upgrading from Jaguar to Panther, Mail.app ate itself. Every time the client started it froze on a reading mailbox dialog box, no menus were clickable and mail wasn’t being synced. Removing all of my IMAP accounts and rebuilding all of them solved the problem. No biggie…a small annoyance. But that’s why I rely on […]

I decommissioned wastegate…

Well, wastegate.tsd.trunkmonkey.com was finally decommissioned this evening. The last of the Web sites were finally moved over to boost.tsd.trunkmonkey.com (Athlon XP 2400+). It’s amusing that wastegate (P2/400) was a Linux box that I confiscated from an old customer for non-payment and served me well for an additional two and a half years. Ohwell…one less server […]

DRM license transfer…

More email archive madness…

After my initial question to Ask Slashdot was rejected, I started doing research on possible search engines and mail archivers. Fortunately, a very similar question was posed to Ask Slashdot yesterday that covers some of the basics of my task.

Namazu – Compiling under Mac OS X and Darwin

After some tinkering I finally got Namazu to compile under Mac OS X. A message on the namazu-users-en mailing list showed a simple one-line patch that takes care of the problem under Mac OS X and Darwin. Thankfully, the patch will be applied to Namazu 2.0.13 so this will no longer be an issue.

Search Engine Roundup – Initial Research and Testing

I’ve started looking into search engines for indexing large amounts of data. Although the primary reason for this is to start organizing my personal data collection, it will also come in extremely handy on the file servers at work. I’ve started to reach critical mass when it comes to the amount of random garbage I […]

Large-scale indexed and searchable personal archives?

Like most geeks, I’m a complete packrat when it comes to collecting copious amounts of seemingly useless information. Years of saved email, textfiles, Web pages, ZIPs, PDFs, Word documents, etc. Underneath the surface of that raw data is the occasional gold nugget of priceless information that, although not yet of value, may some day shed […]
