  • Do you know what today is?

iCalJul17.jpg It’s July 17th! Now, what is so darn special about July 17th! Steve pointed out that the default iCal icon is actually correct today! Today is also a birthday for John Jacob Astor, James Cagney and Donald Sutherland. I’m too lazy to find anything else…the iCal thing was amusing, though…

  • Too young to make their own decisions…

I’m sorry, but I have a serious issue with these kids. I originally found them while scanning ANANOVA for the strange and unusual. It seems that Russian Dzhambulat Khotokhov is the World’s largest four-year-old child, weighing in at 123 pounds at a stalky 3 feet 11 inches. Apparently, these kids are wrestlers and their parents have decided that their morbidly obese lifestyle is perfectly acceptable.

I can understand teenagers training to become Sumo or Olympic wrestlers, but I just can’t accept the fact that parents are making life and health altering decisions for four- and five-year-old children (see Baby Ink Tattoo hoax for another example). Knowing what it’s like to be the fat kid, I can only imagine what these kids will go through when they get older.

Who knows…perhaps I am just completely and utterly ignorant to the preparation and training aspect of the sport of wrestling, but I just can’t see this being healthy. I know Sumo wrestlers are incredibly healthy for their weight, but a four year old frame just isn’t built to support over a hundred pounds.

    Scour Google for more information.

  • Would you like to supersize your crack?

heroinburger.jpg Skinnykat linked to a New York Post story that claims fat and sugar soaked fast food bits are as addictive as cigarettes and hard drugs. Personally, I’d believe it…before I executed my lifestyle change and started Atkins I was heavily addicted to carbohydrates and didn’t even realize it.

With that said, I’d be inclined to believe that a combination of fat and carbohydrates is probably what’s addicting. Although I still have occasional cravings for nasty carb soaked snacks, they usually turn my stomach. Just the thought of a potato chip nauseates me. And I really couldn’t care less about fatty foods like burgers and cheeses. They’ve become a staple in my diet…but only because they’re quick, convenient and legal on the diet. I’d much prefer a nice cut of lean steak with a side salad.

  • Information on accident involving Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman

    Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman

Due to the sheer number of search engine requests coming in on the accident involving Lovell and Freeman, here are links to my previous entires:

Here are some photos taken shortly before the incident:

If you’ve come here looking for photos and video of the crash, you’ve come to the wrong place. The sheer number of people searching for footage of a rally fatality completely blows my mind.

  • The wrong trousers…

All of my pants are completely falling off and I’ve punched an additional three holes in my belt over the past few months…it’s quite amusing. I made a conscious decision not to make any wardrobe purchases until I was sure that I was finished losing weight. I already have a whole new virtual wardrobe because, not only can I wear clothes that I haven’t fit into for years, but I also have dozens of tshirts and polos that I’ve received free at hacker and geek conventions that I can finally fit into!

The pants situation, however, is still rather grave, so I decided to pick up a few pairs of shorts last night just to get an idea about my size. Before I started losing weight I was what I like to call a fat man’s 46. Basically, my waist was 48 or 50 but my hips were 46…and I was one of those guys who would wear his pants on the hips below the paunch rather than go for the “old man” look and wear absolutely huge pants halfway up to the chest. Because of this, my pants were at least small enough to keep around for a long time during my weight loss.

The 46 pants slowly moved from the hips to the waist, then started to fall off. So I purchased some 44 pants and shorts. Those have worked fine for a few months but, last night, I decided to pick up some more cheap shorts to tide me over. I went with 42…and it was a mistake. Those are falling off as well! Looks like it’s time to return them for 40 and completely retire all the pairs of 46 that are now wasting space in my drawers!

I have no idea what size I’ll finally end up at…I’m just happy that, until then, I can suck it up and buy cheap WalMart clothes until I can redo my entire wardrobe with some of the trendy garbage that’s floating around at the mall. I mean, I do work for a company whose target demographic is teenieboppers!

  • I wimped out…

I only did two miles on the elliptical this evening instead of the usual four or five. I stopped more out of boredom than anything else…I wasn’t even tired or worn out, I just needed to get back outside. Oh well…maybe tomorrow…

  • A new look for 3fatchicks.com!

The 3fatchicks.com Web site has been updated with a new look and feel! This is one of the few weight loss resources that I use religiously.

We’ve made several changes to our website design, based on visitor feedback. As many of you know, we suffered a corrupted database a few weeks ago, and we’ve been unable to properly update the site. Our new changes will allow us to resume daily website updates, and continue to grow. We appreciate your patience, and hope the new site will make using our features even easier.

  • Dear internet02.lutron.com…

I happened to be tailing my log files while doing some updates a few minutes ago and was greeted with this gem of a referer:

    Confusion Hero Exhaustion

The house across the street was consumed by flames a few weeks ago. No major external damage but the third floor was internally gutted.

  • Powerless to do anything…

At least I’m not the only one with awful power. For the last few months we’ve been experiencing random brownouts and blackouts. Normally this would just be annoying except for the fact that I run around 20 domains off my home DSL line and my servers get quite unhappy when there’s no electricity to fuel them.

About two weeks ago we started getting hit with dozens of brownouts per minute and all of the UPS battery backup systems promptly drained themselves. Every single server was rebooting itself multiple times per minute and required manual fscks. Luckily I had just purchased an APC Back-UPS XS 1500 for the G4 the previous night so the video editing workstation I paid a small fortune for was safe.
